A Father who is Attentive

IN SILENCE - by Catherine

in silence
you heard me
your light invaded my soul
like an explosion
a silent prayer
the heart of the father
the heart of a child
connected
it amazes me Abba
in silence
I could feel you
your undivided attention
zooming in on me
what is man that you are mindful of him?
And the son of man that you care for him?

in silence
an invitation
taste the waters
lay your burdens
rest, renew your strength
the heart of the father
the heart of a child
connected

This is inspired by the moments of silent
prayer the Lord had led me into on different
occasions. It makes me stand in awe, in the
silence, baring my soul with nothing said; I
felt the Father’s undivided attention focused
and zooming on me.

Selah – a taste of Intimacy

"What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

– Psalm 8:4-5"

Every now and then, the mercy and kindness of God never cease to amaze me. I find myself pondering along the above verse, “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”

A couple of weeks ago in Sydney on a Monday morning, while I laid awake in bed, the Lord prompted me in a still small voice,

“Go and charge your mobile phone, it’s dead.”

Being groggy and sleepy, I pondered for a moment.

"Go and charge your mobile phone, it’s dead.”, the prompting repeated.

Based on some past experience, I had learnt to respond and not argue or question God when He speaks. I opened my bag, ran my fingers in search of my mobile phone and took hold of it – it was definitely dead, the battery was totally drained.

It’s one of those rare moments where my phone runs out of battery. Staying in a rented unit back home without a land line, mobile phone was the only way for friends and family to communicate with me and I have always ensure that it was reachable 24 hours a day. I took hold of the charger with the other hand, set it up and left the phone charging.

30 minutes later, a call came in. It was from my counterpart in Singapore who was helping me with the coordination of a workshop in KL while I was on leave. She needed some urgent confirmation and clarification on the audio-visual requirements I had communicated with the hotel. It was an important phone call that required immediate answers. We were running short of time and the workshop would be taking place in a matter of days.

Ending the call, I sat there thanking God for being such a loving Father who is attentive to small details. Nothing escapes His attention, not even things that we label as “small, insignificant and tiny”.

Has God been speaking to you lately? God doesn’t just speak to us in major decisions or life threatening situation, He speaks in the mundane ordinary life too. He is a loving Father that desires intimacy with His children.
